L’Ilot

The non-profit organization “L’Ilot” has been fighting homelessness for 60 years by responding to the needs of people who are homeless and in a very precarious situation. L’Ilot has nearly fifty volunteers who provide quality services to the public they support. Without these people, who devote what they have most precious, their time, the non-profit organization could not be so present and efficient.

Do you recognize yourself in the values of “L’Ilot” and do you want to take concrete action?

Make Sense

Makesense began with volunteers, people around the world who wanted to help social entrepreneurs develop solutions to global challenges. It was their way of taking action on issues that were much bigger than them. Over the years, more and more volunteers and social entrepreneurs joined along the way, creating a global network of thousands of engaged people.

Volunteers organize offline events gathering citizens and social entrepreneurs to create or develop social projects. There are all sorts of events; some last a couple of hours when others last several days. Most of them are based on collective intelligence principles and methodologies. There are many reasons to join this community: meet actors of the inspiring change, contribute to the fight for climate change or for the development of circular economy, act in favour of the refugees, creating links between people…

Manneken-Pis

In 1954, the Order of Friends of Manneken-Pis was created to defend and promote Manneken-Pis, a symbol of Brussels folklore, around the world. This order was created by a few friends and perpetuated thanks to the work of many volunteers who are passionate about Brussels folklore.

Repair Cafe

repair café is a meeting in which people repair household electrical and mechanical devices, computers, bicycles, clothing, etc. They are organized by and for local residents. Repair cafés are held at a fixed location where tools are available and where they can fix their broken goods with the help of volunteers. The objective is to reduce waste, maintain repair skills and strengthen social contacts between neighbours.

The Repair Café of course has a great ecological impact (215 tonnes of waste avoided in 2018 in Belgium), but it also helps to forge links between residents of the same neighbourhood or between people who might never have been encountered.

It also fulfils an important mission of sharing and transmitting knowledge and aims at the emancipation of everyone (by learning the proper use and repair of everyday objects).

Bras Dessus/Dessous

Since 2015, the non-profit organization Bras Dessus Bras Dessous has been helping its neighbourhood, reconnecting volunteer neighbours and isolated seniors. They create an intergenerational fabric that encourages exchange and sharing. On Tuesday, July 9, 2019, the members gathered for a good meal with Generous cookies for dessert. Joining Bras Dessus Bras Dessous means participating in the links that are forged between seniors who are sometimes isolated or in difficulty and neighbours who, occasionally or regularly, have the opportunity to devote a little time, attention and a few helping hands to support them.
